Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) Improvement
Most disruptions in a production line are caused by poorly packaged products. Issues such as inconsistent packaging shapes or dimensions can significantly reduce Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Additionally, defective packaging that reaches the palletizing machine can lead to improperly stacked pallets. The ContourScanner CS1 helps improve OEE by minimizing these disruptions.
Examples of common issues with packaging:
- Box not sealed
- Box sealed crookedly
- Box improperly sealed (loose tape)
- Shrink wrap missing
- Protruding parts
Our goal is to bring your packaging line’s OEE closer to 100% with the help of the ContourScanner CS1.
To enhance OEE, we developed the ContourScanner to detect defective packaging, such as:
- Open flap on the top
- Open flap on the front or back
- Open flap on the side
- Misaligned product
- Missing shrink wrap
Operation:
- Teach function: Scan the correct packaging (the system includes a “Teach” function that captures the dimensions of the packaging).
- Set tolerances: Input acceptable tolerance levels.
- Ready for use: The ContourScanner is now operational.
Experience with the Countour Scanner CS1:
Four systems are currently operational (at Heinz and Farm Dairy), with the first Countour Scanner CS1 in use for over a year.
Future enhancements:
- Measurement of film length
- Detection of undersized products
- Detection of missing top trays
- Height-to-width ratio analysis
- Label presence detection
- Checkweigher with logging
- Camera-recorded rejection images
